joy, pleasure, and refining

simplifying & experimenting

I’ve been working on tapping into more joy and pleasure. I re-started using a daily journal in Notion, and swapped out everything I was previously tracking for just two properties: joy and gratitude. One thing I’m grateful for and one thing that’s joyful each day. And because visuals help to jog my memory, I’m adding in an accompanying photo, too.

I was previously tracking all sorts of things in this Notion journal: multiple daily check-ins, my menstrual phase, the moon phase, astrological season, weather, moods, food/digestion, stress, etc. It ended up feeling like too much; and I started resenting the journaling. I felt like I “had” to do it, and I didn’t want to do it at all. It was not bringing me joy. So I took some time off.

And with that time and space, I was able to come to some clarity around the practice. To feel into what feels nurturing and supportive to me right now. To refine the process. And to start experimenting with it again.

I didn’t specifically think about how to change the journaling process. I just completely stopped. And when the thought popped up in my mind to try it again, but maybe tracking different elements, I though “ok, it’s time to give it another go.”

This can be true for any practice, process, or system in life… start doing something (experiment), find out how you like it and how it feels (collect data), and then determine where to go from there (keep doing it, change what you're doing, or stop). If it’s not working, take a step back, and get curious about the parts that aren’t working and brainstorm other things to try. Refine your process. Put those new steps in action and start experimenting again!

If you’d like some support in creating or refining systems or rituals in your life, I’ve got some offerings to help you feel more grounded and organized, whether in your backend business systems or your personal self-care.
