spelled tea ritual

witchcraft for adhd

today we’re talking about one of my fav ways to shift from summer vibes into cozying up for fall & winter. & that is doing a spelled tea ritual, aka affirmation tea, aka pouring intentions into tea. (you can also do this with coffee 😘)

and if you’re looking for some support in this seasonal transition, check out these 4 Rituals To Help You Energetically Shift Into Fall (which is applicable for any seasonal/life shift, really). it includes a free Notion journal prompt template to help you move through the process πŸ‚βœοΈπŸ•―οΈ

in this video i go over:

  • gathering supplies

  • my ritual origin story

  • how to pour

  • choosing my affirmation & how the spell impacts my adhd

  • pouring the spell

  • importance of cleaning up as part of the ritual

the ritual

gathering ingredients

To prepare my cup, I get a mug out of the cabinet and I fill it with the amount of filtered water that I'm going to need. I dump that water into my beautiful kettle and turn it on. If I am making a chai type tea, I will also put a little bit of almond milk in my mug and warm that up.

Then I'll grab a spoon and some honey and put that in the mug. And next is either of the teabag or if I'm using looseleaf tea, I have a metal strainer that sits on the top of the cup that I'll put the tea in.

choosing my tea

I choose whatever kind of tea I'm really feeling into that day, I don't make the same kind every day. I feel like this is another intuitive, magical, part of the process in just choosing the flavor or which herbs I’m using for their benefits.

I have a selection of different looseleaf tees and bagged tea options to choose from. My favs are herbal chai, mint, lavender, or lemon. And if I’m using looseleaf, I typically mix a few together for a custom blend.

my ritual origin story

funny enough, it didn’t start out with tea. Around 2018 I started to get obsessed with making smoothies. I was working at a little health food store and we had a smoothie counter. I was also really into Reiki energy healing at the time, and I loved putting the intention and energy healing into every smoothie that I made for the customers. Sometimes, specific words or phrases would come to me as I put my hands on the blender and focused on sending healing energy. And depending who the customers were, I would share that with them, and it was a really great way to connect together. And so I also started doing that with all of my smoothies at home. And it's 2023, I'm still making a smoothie for myself every single morning, and putting that energy healing into my smoothies. And at a point in the process, I started choosing intentional affirmations ahead of time, to direct into my smoothies.

Over the pandemic, I met some of the most magical people that I know and got introduced to the idea of pouring these affirmations and intentions into tea as spelled tea. And since I already had this affirmation energy smoothie practice, the spelled tea made so much sense to me, because i was also already making a cup of tea every morning after my smoothie. it felt like such a natural practice for me and I've been doing it ever since.

pouring the spell

Once the water is boiling, I turn off the stove and I let the kettle sit for just a minute, so that the water has a chance to settle down because I don't want to start pouring and the boiling water comes out spurting out everywhere. I want to make sure I have a nice smooth flow of the water going into my cup. Then I pour the water in a clockwise circle on top of the tea.

I have read that a clockwise motion is used for bringing things in and a counter clockwise motion is for letting them go. In my practice, I always use a clockwise motion.

I either say out loud or in my head my affirmation as I am pouring my water. I like to try to say it out loud most of the time, which I feel like is more powerful, but it just depends on what else is going on around me. and I feel like as long as the intention is there, that's all that really matters.

At the beginning of my week during my weekly planning process a.k.a. my Monday Hour One, part of that process is choosing an affirmation to focus on and to carry with me throughout the rest of the week. I choose a phrase that usually has something to do with what I am working on in my personal life or in therapy. And I will use that same phrase every day for an entire week.

Next, I set a timer for five minutes to let it steep. once it's ready, I will dump the tea or tea bag into our compost bowl in the freezer, and I'm all set!

cleaning up as part of the ritual

I also make sure to clean everything up as I’m going, as part of the ritual. this helps out with my adhd and anxiety. i don’t want to clean anything up cuz it’s boring, however, if i look at it as an essential part of the ritual, i can’t argue with myself about it. i just do it. knowing that it’s important. because if i left everything out, i would have to clean it up eventually and it would cause me anxiety until i took care of it. this way, it’s done and dusted! yay!

Now I get to drink my tea and remember all of that loving intention that I put into making the cup and as I'm drinking it I'm also being infused internally with all of that energy and affirmation as well.
